Senior Prank: College Edition
I remember back in high school, seniors were well known for coming up with some of the best pranks to pull as the school year winded down. From placing hundreds of forks on the front lawn of the high school to sticky noting the principal's office, the seniors would always think up a great idea each year. However, when it came to my senior year, my class and I were all stumped. We couldn't come up with a decent (and harmless) prank that wouldn't break the bank. Also, it might be important to note that although my graduating class was relatively large (285), a good majority of my peers went to a STEM school or took college classes that counted for the required credentials needed to graduate. Since we were all dispersed throughout our district, this made it more difficult to come up with and plan a prank. As the final weeks of the school year approached, my class and I came to the conclusion that we weren't going to do a prank. Although we were sad we weren't going to pull a prank we thought that would be better rather than doing a prank that would be deemed as embarrassing by underclassmen.
Now four years later as a senior in college, I regret my graduating class not doing a prank in high school. So as a redemption, my best friend aka roommate, and I decided that we were going to do a harmless prank on campus late one evening. We had everything planned out: what we needed, where we were going to go, and what day and time we were going to do it. We wanted our prank to be something that wouldn't negatively affect anyone, but instead get people to smile or laugh. Now you may be wondering what could we even do on a small campus like ONU. Well, we decided to go big with our prank, figuratively not literally speaking. For our prank, we hid over 400 tiny, plastic ducks throughout numerous buildings on campus. We hid them EVERYWHERE: in classrooms, in hallways, in fact, we even hid one on the floor in an elevator. My favorite spot where we hid ducks was actually in one particular classroom. Instead of hiding the ducks in this classroom, we placed them in plain sight. We put one on each desk, one on the professor's chair, and one on top of the clock placed on the wall. The best part about this is that we left a message on the whiteboard stating, "You've been ducked!"
Although we loved the concept of our prank, we were disappointed that we wouldn't be able to see people's reactions when they found a duck. However, we ran into luck after we hid a few in one of the buildings on campus. A group of guys passed us in a hallway and as they turned the corner, one of them shouted, "Look it's a duck!" My roommate and I have never laughed as hard as we did right after we heard those guys find a duck. After that moment, we remembered that although we may not get to witness people finding these tiny ducks, we will at least know that it will bring some joy to those on campus.
Even though I did not get to do a typical senior prank in high school, I am glad that I got to do one in college. In my own opinion, this one would have been way better than anything my peers could have thought of in high school because, with this one, I got to do it with my best friend.
This is such a wholesome and creative way to bring some joy to campus, honestly, the tiny ducks prank is really funny! Sometimes the simplest ideas leave the biggest smiles, and doing it with your best friend makes it even more memorable.
ReplyDeleteI'll have you know, I have four of those ducks sitting on my kitchen table in my apartment. I love them! This is such a fun, creative, and best of all harmless prank to pull on the whole school. I love this idea so much and I'm glad you finally got to do a senior prank.
ReplyDeleteI’m so glad I got to be part of this with you!! It seriously was one of the most fun nights — hearing that random guy yell “Look it’s a duck!” still makes me laugh. Honestly, I wouldn’t trade this memory for anything. It was the perfect way to end senior year!
