Formals: One Last Night Out With the Girls

This past Friday, my sorority held our annual formal dance. In previous years, we've rented out a room at Alexandria's, a restaurant located in Findley, and decided to try a new place this year. However, due to issues with booking, we had to resort back to Alexandria's. Little did we know that this was going to be the least of our problems that night.

The night started with everyone gathering at our sorority house before we departed for the venue. There were roughly 80 people attending, so we had to rent two charter buses. As we were waiting for the buses to arrive, we all got to introduce each other to our guests and chat for a while. When it came time for us to leave, we became skeptical that something had gone wrong because our member in charge told us to hang tight for a bit. Well, we found out after about 45 minutes of waiting that one of the buses had an issue and wasn't coming at all. Therefore, we had to quickly come up with a solution. Our best solution was to gather people who had their cars on campus and weren't of the drinking age to carpool. Once we figured this out and divided up into cars and on the bus, we were finally able to hit the road.

Once we all arrived, we thought the worst of the night was behind us, and we could enjoy the rest of the evening. However, as we began calling tables to get their food in a buffet-style line, we realized that the workers were not restocking the food as they should have been. The workers told us that they did not have any more of the food that was ordered, which was a huge deal because three tables had yet to be fed. They said that they would bring out something as soon as they could. After about half an hour of waiting, they finally brought out something for the remaining tables to eat.

Once everyone had eaten, the rest of the night went according to plan. We announced superlatives, took pictures, and busted out some moves on the dance floor. My superlative was "Gym Rat of the Year." I know, shocker right?!? We finished the evening with a tradition where the same final song is played, and everyone forms a circle and interlocks arms while the seniors are in the middle.

Although the night may not have gone entirely as planned, it turned out to be a very special evening for me. This night is the last big event that I will be a part of before I become an alumna. I am thankful that I got to have one last outing with the girls and will forever cherish the Theta memories that were created over the past two years. Thank you, Kappa Alpha Theta, for shaping me into the person I am today and blessing me with lifelong friendships.
