Pinterest: Find Your Own Aesthetic

Pinterest is one of the most well-utilized apps to discover new ideas for various things. People use the app to find recipes, fashion, crafts/DIY projects, inspirational quotes, shopping, and much more. Out of all of the endless things that can be found on Pinterest, I believe that one thing proves to be the most significant: your individual aesthetic. Although other apps, such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, also create personalized feeds based on what content you have previously interacted with, Pinterest differs substantially. With more users from various age demographics, there is a greater number of posts and storyboards shared on Pinterest compared to other apps. This results in a greater individual feed because there are more specific posts to choose from based on your previous interests.

If you have never been on Pinterest before, you may be completely lost as to what I am talking about, so I will try to describe it as best as possible. For example, let's say you're searching for a new country wallpaper for your screensaver. After clicking on a few posts, similar posts will then be on your main feed the next time you refresh it. Another example is looking for motivational quotes to push through a tough workout. After searching for a little while, you can expect posts similar to the aesthetic of the ones that gauged your interest to be on your feed later. Since there is an endless amount of topics that can be found on Pinterest, no one's main feed will be the exact same; everyone will have their own aesthetic that is personalized to them. For example, I tend to use Pinterest to find color pallets for my Instagram stories, cute modern paintings for ceramics, and female country artists. Therefore, my current aesthetic on my feed is warmer color schemes, some ceramic art, a lot of female country fashion, and some other posts that may be of my interest based on those things. Since everyone has different hobbies and passions that lead to their own aesthetics on their Pinterest feeds, I believe that you can really tell a lot about that person. I think that just by looking at a person's feed, you can get a glimpse of that person's personality. It's like describing who someone is by using pictures instead of just words.

So, the next time you are on Pinterest, take a look at what your main feed looks like. Does it depict who you are or what you value in life?

  1. I have never really used Pinterest before, but the more I learn about it, the more interested I am in it! I love the idea of having an easy way of finding inspiration for aesthetics and projects. Googling images can only get you so far, but this app has so many more opportunities.
