Survival Mode Unlocked
Usually I am not one to back down when things get a little tough, but this past week has been one of the worst weeks that I've endured in quite some time.
My lovely week started from the moment I woke up Monday morning. When I rose that morning, I was startled by my own appearance when I glanced in the mirror. My right eyelid was entirely swollen. Like it looked like I had just gotten out of a boxing match (and lost tremendously). However, despite how bad my eye looked, I was fortunate enough that I was not experiencing any pain. The only pain that I had to endure was the embarrassment of being seen in class and walking around campus.
Luckily, when I woke up on Tuesday, most of the swelling in my eye had subsided. I thought that after going through that bizarre situation, that the rest of my week could only get better from there on out, but boy, was I wrong.
My Tuesday and Wednesday were perfectly normal, but when Thursday rolled around, I had no clue what I was in for the next couple of days. I woke Thursday to a slight headache and a little nausea, but I had just assumed that was from not getting the best sleep. Therefore, I pushed through my agenda for the day (I even went to the gym, not my wisest decision) and hoped that by the next day, I would be back to feeling like my normal self. When Friday came, I felt even worse but I toughed it out in the morning to attend my two classes. After I survived my classes, I spent the rest of the day and evening sleeping on and off while Grey's Anatomy was playing in the background. On Saturday, I began to feel a little bit better, but still took it easy, so I just continued my TV binge. On Sunday, I thought that I would be continuing my path to recovery, instead, I had developed a horrible whooping cough and still couldn't break a fever of 100°F. At this point, I've begun to question if I was ever going to get better. I decided that if I did not feel any better by the next day, then I was going to go to the health center of campus and see if they could prescribe medication that would help me get back on my feet.
Luckily, when I woke on that Monday, it was like all of my prayers had been answered. My fever was finally gone, my cough was almost non-existent, and I felt a lot more like myself. Although I was almost back to my normal self, I decided to stay in for one more day rather than risk it by venturing out in the cold and snow.
From being surprised with a swollen eye to lying on my deathbed while fighting for my life, I can happily say that I am glad that that week is in the past. After living through that, I'm reminded to not take my health for granted even in the slightest bit.
Oh no! It sounds like you had a really rough week, I'm glad you're feeling better though! I just got over a little cold as well, thankfully I take daily vitamins and am fully vaccinated so it wasn't too bad. I genuinely recommend taking elderberry too to lessen the harshness of being sick.
