Instagram: I'm Obsessed

Instagram has been a growing social media platform ever since it was created in 2010. It has progressed tremendously over the past decade, adapting to meet individuals' desires. Instagram has evolved by utilizing filters, posts, reels, advertisements, etc., on its platform.

When I got my first phone back when I was in eighth grade, I remember that one of the very first apps that I downloaded was Instagram. At this time, Instagram and YouTube were some of the biggest talks in my generation. This was when filters began to become popular among the younger generations. In fact, I remember during the first year or two that I had the app, many of my posts had some sort of crazy filter over the pictures. Back then, the app was more so used to share photos, whatever they may be. Today, however, the majority of users create a certain aesthetic consisting of the posts that are displayed on their page. Many users are also businesses or content creators, therefore, creating a brand image is ideal for making a product easily recognizable by viewers.

Today, I would say that Instagram is my favorite app. Over the past couple of years, I have really taken pride in creating my own aesthetic on my personal account. I try to only post content that aligns with the rest of my page and make sure stories are also clean and coherent. This past fall, I decided to create another account specifically for sharing my love for fitness. On this account, I post workout videos, pictures with friends after a workout, and inspirational quotes about managing health. With my fitness account, I have created a different aesthetic than what is depicted on my personal page. On my personal page, I post high-quality photos of important events that have occurred in my life and memorable times with friends and family. With my workout page, I create content such as videos showcasing how to do an exercise or pictures that are not as clear because they are action shots during a run.

Not only have I used Instagram to build my own platform, but I have also learned so much from others on the app. The app has allowed me to stay up-to-date with current trends and with what people who I may not be as close with have been up to recently. With the use of Instagram, I have also been able to connect with people who attend the same college as I do or share similar interests that I wouldn't have otherwise had the opportunity to.

Overall, Instagram has positively impacted my experience with how I view social media. I hope that in the future, the app does not become irrelevant and is still thriving as it is today. I also plan to continue to utilize my personal page as well as attract my viewers to my fitness account in hopes of encouraging people to take action for their own health.
